Credit: SciTechDaily.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Scientists have built a quantum battery that could make charging almost instant.<\/h3>\n<p>Australian researchers have achieved a major milestone in energy storage by designing and testing what is believed to be the world\u2019s first proof-of-concept quantum battery.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists say this emerging technology could reshape how energy is stored and delivered, potentially leading to devices that charge at extremely high speeds.<\/p>\n<h4>First Quantum Battery Breakthrough<\/h4>\n<p>The project was led by <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"cmtt_f23a740201e757a026af47107ca9a455\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" role=\"link\">CSIRO<\/span> in partnership with the University of Melbourne and RMIT, with the findings published in Nature Light: Science &amp; Applications. Researchers from the University of Melbourne, including Associate Professor James Hutchison and Professor Trevor Smith, played key roles in the work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimilar to conventional batteries, quantum batteries charge, store, and discharge energy. Credit: CSIRO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4>Ultrafast Laser Experiments Confirm Charging Speed<\/h4>\n<p>To verify the prototype\u2019s performance, the team conducted experiments at the University\u2019s Ultrafast Laser Laboratory in the School of Chemistry. Credit: CSIRO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h4>Quantum Energy Storage and Future Applications<\/h4>\n<p>The results provide an early look at how quantum-based energy storage could power future technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. James Quach, quantum science and technologies science leader at CSIRO, led the team that built the prototype.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe research and proof-of-concept validates the exciting potential of quantum batteries to achieve rapid, scalable charging and energy storage at room temperature, laying the groundwork for next-gen energy solutions,\u201d Dr. Quach said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur findings confirm a fundamental quantum effect that\u2019s completely counterintuitive: quantum batteries charge faster as they get large.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile there\u2019s still much work to be done in quantum battery research, we\u2019ve made an important move towards realizing the possibilities.
